Woman and child taken to hospital after lifeboat rescue

A woman and child had to be taken to Noble's Hospital after being rescued from a sinking trawler in the early hours of the morning.

Peel lifeboat crew were called out at 1.30am after a converted fishing vessel started taking on water during a trip from Glasgow to Conwy.

Two war ships, three helicopters and a Northern Irish fishing vessel all took part in the operation, which was 11 miles west of Peel.

The lifeboat started to bring the trawler back to the town, but dropped the tow to rush the woman and child to the port when they fell ill.

After the pair were met by an ambulance, the lifeboat returned to the stricken vessel, escorting it into the harbour at 5am.
