Permission to purchase new nursing home granted

Permission has been granted to spend £8.1 million of taxpayers' money on a new nursing home in Douglas. 
 
The Department of Health and Social Care gained Tynwald approval to buy the 68-bed facility on Salisbury Street this week. 
 
It claims the facility will ease the pressure on Noble's Hospital as over half of beds will be for people who have their care funded through social security benefits. 
 
It was an issue that divided opinion in the court with a number of MHKs expressing their concerns about staffing.
 
However their concerns were counteracted by a number of politicians who supported the move - it's hoped the care home will be completed by the end of September:
