Local racer died on the eve of his birthday

A local motorbike racer who died after crashing on the Southern 100 course was just hours away from celebrating his 59th birthday.

Santon man Dean Martin suffered massive blunt force trauma after a crash at the Billown Dip during the Pre-TT Classic event on May 27th.

The 58-year-old died at the scene - a post mortem examination revealed he'd suffered extensive trauma predominantly to his head and thorax.

The inquest into his death was opened at Douglas Courthouse today - Coroner of Inquests John Needham released his body so funeral arrangements can take place.

The inquest has now been adjourned to a date to be fixed.
