Visiting footballer accused of glass attack

A footballer from Middlesbrough has spent a week at the Isle of Man Prison after allegedly injuring a fellow partygoer in a nightclub.

24-year-old Rhys Llewellyn denies assaulting the woman with a glass, causing wounding, at Sugar Sugar in Douglas on February 6th.

He's also been charged with assaulting a man on the street outside on the same night - no pleas have been entered to that charge.

Llewellyn had captained the Teesside team during a match against the Isle of Man side in the quarter finals of the Inter-League Cup in Peel earlier that day.

At Douglas Courthouse yesterday an application for bail was approved with his mother putting up a £5,000 surety to secure his release.

He'll return to the Island on April 5th when he's due to be committed to the Court of General Gaol Delivery.
