Nine new care homes needed to cope with aging population

Nine new care homes need to be built over the next 20 years if the Isle of Man is to cope with its ageing population.

That's according to the Department of Health and Social Care - currently all nursing and residential care is provided by private operators.

Onchan MHK Peter Karran claims "chronic shortages" are causing real problems.

Minister Howard Quayle says discussions have taken place with care providers who are interested in setting up here - however he says there's more work to be done first:
