MLC convicted of drink driving

MLC Tony Wild has been convicted of drink driving at Douglas Courthouse this morning.

The 57-year-old politician was just over three times the legal limit when he was stopped by police outside the Co-op in Laxey on December 12th.

A witness had reported his “erratic driving” after following him through the village – police noted he smelt of intoxicants and was unsteady on his feet needing to hold on to a signpost to “steady himself”.

He failed a roadside breath test and was arrested and taken to Police Headquarters where he became ill and was transferred to Noble’s Hospital.

Social enquiry and psychiatric reports have been requested before Wild is sentenced on February 16th – he’s been banned from driving in the meantime.
