Jail for Douglas man who's told 'stay away from drugs'
Attempting to store over £25,000 worth of cannabis for a drug dealer in return for a minimal amount of the drug has landed a Douglas man in prison.
At Douglas Courthouse yesterday 26-year-old David Jenkinson was handed 14 months custody after previously admitting possession of cannabis skunk and possession with intent to supply.
On May 28th undercover police officers watched him collect a suitcase from a Liverpool man who had travelled to the Island - he and friend Sam Atkin, who will be sentenced next week, then returned to Atkin's address in Douglas.
The pair distributed the drug - 1,900 grams was put in the attic, they kept 6g for themselves, valued at £79, and the rest was put back in the case; on leaving the property they were both arrested.
The court heard Jenkinson had been asked to store the cannabis for an unnamed person before it was passed on - his advocate described his actions as "selfish and thoughtless".
He said the drug had been a carrot which had been "dangled" and Jenkinson very easily fell into the trap after adopting a cannabis habit he was struggling to afford.
Sentencing him Deemster Montgomerie said he obviously hadn't learnt his lesson after being convicted of similar offences in 2010 - bellowing at him "stay away from drugs".
He told him he had no excuse for this behaviour adding "if you are truly ashamed then show it by your actions".
