Work ongoing to make permit system fairer
Spouses of people permitted to work here will now be given the same privilege - but what's next?
According to the Department of Economic Development 'fairer' measures could continue to be introduced to the system.
Minister Laurence Skelly also announced changes like issuing five-year permits instead of the annual renewal and introducing 'exemptions'.
The legislation will come into effect on October 1st this year.
However chief executive Chris Corlett says further considerations won't be administered without due caution:
