Police had to use PAVA spray after man went 'berserk'

23-year-old Johnathan Elliot pleaded guilty to the offence, and of resisting arrest, at Douglas Courthouse earlier this week.

 

Police were called to a flat on Mona Drive in Douglas on June 28th at 4.20am following reports he'd become aggressive towards his pregnant fiancée. 

 

She'd asked him not to come home due to his level of intoxication, because one of their children was poorly, but Elliot had ended up returning and began shouting. 

 

Police found him in bed but when they woke him he began lashing out - PAVA incapacitant spray was used twice because he was resisting so violently. 

 

One officer described the incident as the first time in 10 years that she'd genuinely been fearful of her safety. 

 

Social enquiry reports have been requested and Elliot will be sentenced on August 25th.
