Tynwald to vote on £7.2 million mental health unit

A new £7.2 million mental health facility is being proposed in Tynwald today.

Grianagh Court is operating at maximum capacity, and has done for several years.

Government spends over £1 million each year - paying for patients to travel to and from the UK for treatment.

To remedy it - proposals are being put forward for the new acute adult psychiatric inpatient unit - which would be housed on the Noble's Hospital campus site.

Minister for Health and Social Care Howard Quayle insists that it's the only way to future-proof the provision, and ensure taxpayers are getting value for money:
