Board members sought for Independent Monitoring Board

New members are sought for a board to ensure prisoners' rights are upheld.

Independent Monitoring Board chairman Aileen Gelling says there's a need for a fresh intake of 'community spirited individuals' to join the team.

They'd be responsible for insuring the rights of people in holding cells are observed in terms of treatment, accommodation and the standard of care.

No qualifications are required - but it's asked that prospective members have substantial amounts of 'life experience' and compassion.

Aileen says potential candidates need to think about it before applying, as it's not an easy role:
