Island smokers urged to be wary of e-cigarettes

Islanders are being warned that e-cigarettes still aren't the answer to quitting the habit.

The Public Health Directorate says most cigarette alternatives are supplied for purchase by tobacco companies - begging the question of whether or not they are "re-normalising" the act of smoking.

People are four-times more likely to successfully give up when they combine support with approved medication instead.

Tobacco strategy coordinator Anita Imberger says there has also been no research on the effect e-cigs have on the human body:
