Man fined for cannabis found in drawer

A Douglas man has been fined over £800 after being caught with cannabis after police carried out a drugs raid targeting someone else.

At Douglas Courthouse yesterday 27-year-old Aras Gogani pleaded guilty to two charges of possessing cannabis and cannabis bush in June this year.

The court heard how police found the drugs - valued at just over £271 - in his bedside cabinet after carrying out a warrant on the property he shared on Woodbourne Road.

His advocate said he was using the drug to help him sleep after difficult personal circumstances but appreciated he shouldn't have had it.

Sentencing him Deputy High Bailiff Jayne Hughes said she accepted it was solely for personal use and fined him £700 as well as costs of £125.
