Befriending charity piloted on the Island takes 750 calls each day

A befriending charity piloted on the Isle of Man is now taking more than 750 calls each day.

Nearly 300,000 people have contacted The Silver Line since lauching the full service - many of those calls were made from Manx numbers.

Founded by Ester Rantzen in December 2012 and given funding by the Big Lottery Fund, it was set up to provide comfort and supply information to the elderly.

More than half of the callers didn't have anyone else to talk to.

Anyone wishing to make use of the service can do so by calling 0800 4 70 80 90.
