Toilet tax could be replaced by a new sewerage rate

Plans are underway to scrap the controversial "toilet tax" and replace it with a new sewerage rate instead.

The Manx Utilities Authority is asking Tynwald to look at the current charge, which is due to rise to £100 in April, and introduce a more equitable system.

It wants to implement a sewerage rate which reflects the rateable value of a property and is charged at 62 pence in the pound.

The authority claims this would mean 70 per cent of people would then pay under the suggested £100 fee.
