Carers' needs to be assessed by DHSC

The Department of Health and Social Care will pilot an assessment of carers' needs for the first time before the end of this year.

Sitting under the social services act; it's aimed at ensuring that people who assist others with additional needs aren't without the means to do it.

Cath Hayhow is the director of adult social care; she told us that supporting older people and those with disabilities is a partnership between government, care givers, and the community.

She says the Island's charities do a great job, but government also needs to take the lead:
