Bridge in Castletown named after Major

Castletown's footbridge is being named after the only Manx man ever to be awarded the Victoria Cross.

The bridge over the harbour will be known as Cain Bridge in honour of Major Robert Cain who lived in the ancient capital.

It's part of efforts to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the Battle of Arnhem in Holland where the Major was awarded his medal for showing gallantry in the face of the enemy.

The commemoration has been organised in conjunction with the Manx Aviation Preservation Society - Andrew Burden is a member:
