Equality Act will meet the needs of the disabled

The Social Care Minister has moved to reassure disabled people that the new Equality Act will meet their needs.

Chris Robertshaw announced in Tynwald this week that the Disability Discrimination Act will be put on hold.

Despite receiving Royal Assent seven years ago it has yet to be implemented.

It’s anticipated the Equality Act will overtake it - although it's not set to come in until at least 2016.

Minister Robertshaw says although he understands concerns people need to understand the full remit of the new act:
