Airport would benefit from new fire station

Ronaldsway airport would be better supported in the event of a major incident if plans for a new fire station get the go-ahead.

The Department of Home Affairs has submitted proposals for a new facility which will cost almost one million pounds.

It would be located on the Ronaldsway Industrial Estate and would replace the existing station in Castletown which, after 50 years, has been deemed no longer fit for purpose.

If approved, the station could be built by December next year and be operational by early 2015.

MHK David Quirk has political responsibility for the department:
