Job loss threats are 'scaremongering' says MHK

The Chief Minister has been accused of “scaremongering” in light of a deal to help the struggling Sefton Group.

Allan Bell says providing a loan of over one million pounds, and buying land from the group, so that it can continue to trade is a matter of national interest.

However this was met with opposition in the House of Keys yesterday with a number of MHKs saying the business should have been put into receivership instead.

Mr Bell says one of the main reasons for supporting the Sefton Group is to protect hundreds of people from losing their jobs.

But South Douglas MHK Kate Beecroft says she doesn’t think this would have been the case if a liquidator was called in:
