Department vow to improve Mental Health provision

The Department of Health says full consideration will be given to how mental health provision on the Island can be improved.

It comes after a coroner ruled that a 35-year-old Onchan man's life could have been saved by the mental health service.

Christopher Burrows hung himself at home in 2011 just two days after leaving the Grainagh Court treatment facility.

Presiding over the inquest, John Needham said the opportunity was missed to prevent his death and made eight recommendations on how to improve services.

The Department says it will give prompt and robust scrutiny to the points raised and how to improve processes, practices and procedures.
