Noble's waiting for report on bowel surgery complications

The Department of Health says the decision to suspend colorectal surgery at Noble’s Hospital last year was not taken lightly.

The bowel surgery was stopped in November following a higher than expected complication rate in patients treated over October and November.

It led to an NHS trust from the north of England visiting the Island at the end of 2012 to conduct an external review of the procedures.

Noble’s is now waiting for the trust’s report before it can resume as normal.

However medical director Stephen Upsdell says this type of surgery is often high risk:
