Waste disposal services no longer funded by government

Government has confirmed it will no longer fund waste disposal services for local authorities.

Currently this costs £5.7million every year but government is phasing this out completely by 2018.

The move has been approved by the Council of Ministers and will save the taxpayer £1m annually for the next six years.

At the end of this scheme the responsibility and cost will lie entirely with local authorities.
