Crack down on sick leave within government saves money

More than £600,000 has been saved following a clamp down on sick leave in government.

New figures show an 18 per cent reduction in the number of days lost per employee after work was undertaken to address levels of absence.

The most common reasons for staff being off were said to be stress, anxiety and depression and hospitalisation.

Chief Minister Allan Bell says there was a concern that the system was open to abuse and that needed to be addressed:
