Flood help available for those at risk

Members of the public whose properties are at risk of flooding during poor weather can now collect sandbags from the Island’s civic amenity sites.

The Department of Infrastructure has handled hundreds of calls for assistance in the last few weeks as heavy rain caused problems in a number of areas.

It was the wettest summer on record and the land has been left saturated, which means flooding is likely after even just a medium amount of rain.

The situation is exacerbated by autumn leaves blocking gullies and drains.

In the House of Keys this week Minister David Cretney praised workers who been on hand to deal with the flood:
