Peel GP admits committing sexually explicit act at work

A GP who worked at Peel Medical Centre has admitted committing an act of a sexually explicit nature whilst at work.

37 year old Dr Damian Smith appeared before a Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service in Manchester yesterday in relation to the incident which happened in 2010.

He admitted masturbating in front of a webcam in his consultation room on New Year’s Eve, creating a recording of it and transmitting it to a third party.

Police on the Island discovered the file after practice bosses raised concerns. Dr Smith was later sacked although no criminal charges were brought.

The General Medical Council described Dr Smith’s behaviour as 'indecent, inappropriate and conduct that was likely to bring the medical profession into disrepute'.

In a letter to the GMC practice senior partner Malcolm Guild said his clinical competence had never been called into question and there was no history of improper behaviour involving patients.

The hearing has resumed today.
