Gary Roberts appointed Island's next Chief Constable

For the first time in the Isle of Man’s history a Manxman has been appointed to the role of Chief Constable.

Gary Roberts will fill the post left vacant by Mike Langdon who is retiring in December after a long and distinguished career in both the UK and Island police forces.

Mr Roberts has served for 28 years in the local constabulary; his new role comes with a five-year contract.

He’ll be tasked with the responsibility of maintaining the Island’s reputation as being one of the safest places to live in the British Isles, a challenge that he says he is not taking lightly:
