Overseas aid chairman defends 50,000 donation

The Chairman of the Overseas Aid Committee has defended a decision to donate £50,000 to Sudan and Sierra Leone.

Earlier this week it was announced that the money would be split between the areas which are two of the poorest countries in the world.

Rebel fighting in Sudan has left thousands of people displaced with little food and there’s a national emergency in Sierra Leone where there’s been a cholera outbreak.

The donation ignited debate on social networking forums, including our Facebook page, as to why government was sending aid money when it’s made cuts to so many services on the Island.
