Schools respond to controversial change to GCSE grade system
A change to the grading system for GCSE exams has had schools both on Island and in the UK up in arms.
It comes after exams regulator Ofqual introduced a new system of ‘comparable outcomes’ in an effort to tackle grade-inflation.
Initially they didn’t expect to see a rise but a fall wasn’t expected either.
Many schools have complained about the grade boundaries in English Language being substantially increased, leaving pupils with lower results than expected.
Paul Craine from the DEC described why this new system is seen as particularly controversial by the schools.
