Possible deal reached in bus driver paid lunch breaks dispute

 

After lengthy discussions between the unite union and government it would appear maybe a solution has been found to the current dispute centring on the removal of paid lunch breaks for the bus drivers.

Government identified that taking the paid break off the drivers would result in a £300,000 saving.

At the same time it would have worked out at roughly a 12% pay cut to the workers, leading to mass opposition to the idea.

It was also recently alleged that the workers were threatened with the sack if they didn't agree to the new terms.

Head of the Unite Union, Eric Holmes, has said he is optimistic a compromise has been reached, but couldn't divulge what it is until the ballot had been completed on 14th September.
