Highways Director says Mountain Road badly hit by floods

Repair work is being carried out around the Island this afternoon to rectify the damage caused by heavy rain.

Many of the Island’s roads have been flooded and in many places excessive debris has been washed onto them, making driving conditions hazardous.

Lhoobs Road and The Mountain Road were closed earlier this morning and the Steam Railway Service was suspended, although this has now resumed service.

Some roads have also been lifted because of the water pressure although it’s hoped that these will resettle back into place.

Director of Highways Richard Pearson said the Mountain Road would remain shut until at least 12pm tomorrow as it was particularly badly hit:
