DEFA wants to hear business proposals for plantation use

The Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture is looking for ways to generate more income from its plantations.

DEFA is asking for business proposals to increase recreational activity within government-owned forests.

The forestry directorate says it's successfully introduced mountain bike trails, improved access for horse riders and pedestrians and allows hundreds of organised events to take place on its land each year.

It now wants to expand on this and see what other facilities and activities could be developed on a commercial basis.

Access and Recreation Officer Graeme Watson says they want to hear ideas from potential business partners.[play media file]
