Minister doesn't want Island to rely on imported food

The Minister for Environment, Food and Agriculture says the Island's farming sector must remain strong to ensure the Island's food security in the future.

Phil Gawne has announced that his Department, along with those involved in the Manx food industry, is to review the Island's Food and Agricultural Strategy.

An Industry Advisory Partnership has been set up to make sure the Island is focusing in the most beneficial areas of the food sector.

Mr Gawne says some people on the Island may think food production isn't important as produce can be imported.

But, he believes falling spending power in Western Europe could make this difficult in the future [play clip]
