Council outlines £12.7million plans for Lower Douglas
Douglas Council is to spend £12.7million on a number of developments in Lower Douglas.
The board has announced plans to build a 460 space multi-storey car park, new premises for the Henry Bloom Noble Library, offices for the Council's IT department and new public toilets.
The works will be on the Cambrian Place site on Lord Street.
The Council says it's keen to move the library to a building which it owns, as it currently pays £150,000 a year in rent for the premises on Victoria Street.
The local authority hopes to submit planning applications for the project next month.
The plans have been welcomed by Chief Minister Allan Bell, who has described it as a positive initiative which will help the Island's economy in providing construction jobs and continuing the ongoing regenerations of the town centre.
