MHK seeks PIP assurances
Questions over the PIP breast implant scare are to be raised in the House of Keys next week.
Douglas East MHK Brenda Cannell wants assurances that no NHS breast cancer patients on the Island have been given the suspect implants.
The Department of Health has previously said that no-one its referred for implants on the NHS, or those who've had surgery on the Island privately have been given the PIP product.
However, it is known that at least three women from the Island who've had surgery privately in the UK have had PIP implants.
PIP implants are known to contain industrial grade silicone intended for use in mattresses rather than the medical grade equivalent.
Mrs Cannell will ask Health Minister David Anderson what proof he's received that no women have received PIP as part breast reconstruction procedures at two medical facilities in the UK.
