Sex offender loses appeal against conviction

A sex offender is to remain in jail after an appeal against his conviction was dismissed.

Lewis Myles Bell is serving a seven year prison sentence after being found guilty of gross indecency with a child, indecent assault and possession of indecent photographs.

Bell claimed his advocate during his trial hadn't put forward his defence properly.

Bell told the court his defence hadn't advanced the idea that the victims colluded when making their accusations.

However, the lawyer said there was no evidence that the victims, two girls ages 12 and 14, had invented the story so he didn't pursue it.

The court of appeal found that there was no doubt or unease about the conviction and that the appeal should be dismissed.
