MHK raises questions over rent increase

Questions over a 10% rise in public sector rents are to be raised in this month's sitting of Tynwald.

Douglas North MHK John Houghton will ask the Social Care Minister if Tynwald will get to vote on the increase, and whether a consultation was undertaken before the decision to put rent up was taken.

It was announced last week that the cost of public housing for tenants was going up by a 10th in April.

10% is double the current rate of inflation.

Minister Chris Robertshaw will answer Mr Houghton's questions when Tynwald meets on Tuesday.
