Van hit by falling tree - driver unhurt

The driver of a van has had a lucky escape after a tree fell on their vehicle.

It happened this morning on the old Castletown Road near to the White Hoe as gale force winds battered the Island.

The tree crashed onto the bonnet of the van, which belonged to electrical firm Brew and Corkill.

It caused extensive damage, but the fortunate driver walked away without a scratch.

The fallen tree blocked the road for around two hours.
