Sex abuse case proves the system is 'defective' says MHK

An MHK believes a recent child sex abuse case proves Sarah's Law is needed on the Island.

Last week, a man who's already on the Sex Offender's Register, was jailed for indecently assaulting an eight year old girl.

Bill Henderson has been campaigning for Sarah's Law so parents can have controlled access to information about sex offenders.

However, the Department of Home Affairs says there are already measures in place and the introduction of Sarah's Law won't be reviewed at this time.

Mr Henderson says this case proves the current system is defective.

He says a known sex offender was able to "ingratiate himself into the family home" and there was no way for the family to make a disclosure request.
