Misconduct dentist won't lose his job

A Douglas dentist who appeared before a professional conduct committee has been allowed to keep his job.

 

Ian Hulme-Rigby brought his pet dog into his clinic and gave patients unmeasured doses of the sedative Tamazepam when he practiced in England between 2005 and 2007.

 

Following a hearing, the General Dental Council said the way in which he approached the administration of the sedative was 'reckless.'

 

However, the disciplinary committee said the 56 year old is a technically competent dentist who cares for his patients.

 

Mr Hulme-Rigby, from the Douglas Dental Spa, is allowed to carry on practicing, however a number of conditions have been placed on him for the next two years.

 

He will undergo strict supervision from the GDC and take a course in ethics.
