Plans to turn derelict pool into boat haven and dive centre

There are fresh plans to transform the site of a derelict outdoor swimming pool in Port Erin.

There have been complaints that the former baths to the north of the main beach are an eyesore, but a planning application is being prepared to develop the area.

The owner wants to build a harbour or haven for small boats.

A restaurant or cafe, a dive centre and a small holiday accommodation unit are also planned.

The design is being drawn up by Hugh Logan Architects of Castletown.

Mr Logan told us that although there will still be access on foot, it's hoped people will visit mainly by boat and water taxi from Port Erin's main harbour.

The planning application is due to be submitted next week.

It's hoped the development will be complete within two years.
