"You don't have to pay to play" says the Mothers Union

The Mothers Union on the Isle of Man says it doesn't want Manx children to grow up believing that 'they are what they own.'

Following two years of research, the Christian organisation have published a report which found that more than £350 million a year is spent in Britain on persuading children that they want, and must have certain items.

As a result of the study, the Bye Buy Childhood initiative has been launched today. It's  a campaign against commercialism and aims to encourage parents to understand that you don't have to pay to play.

Helen Parry the president of the Mothers Union on the Isle of Man told Energy Fm that she believes the manipulation is rife.
