Council to write to Minister over sprinkler row

Douglas Council is disappointed that central government isn't going to fund sprinkler systems in new-build public sector housing.

The Department of Social Care has decided not to support the Council's policy of installing the devices in all new properties.

The local authority says the cost of around £2600 per unit is relatively modest.

Council Leader David Christian says he is saddened and appalled by the decision.

He added that the Council will be sending a strongly worded letter to Social Care Minister Martyn Quayle.
