Intended as a ‘community hub’, it would be redesigned as an exhibition space and shop, to be run by Rushen Heritage Trust.

 

Called ‘Tree Archyn’ or ‘The Three Arches’, the centre would provide the trust with a base to support its activities and online offer.

 

Bridson Street toilets were closed by the local authority recently, as they failed to meet requirements for disabled access, and would have required ‘substantial’ investment to upgrade.

 

The village’s main bus stop was also relocated in 2017 to Station Road.

 

Commissioners are satisfied with the number of toilets still available, with four other conveniences in the port.

Chairman Godfrey Egee says the heritage group will bear most of the costs for developing the site, and will seek funding from the Manx Lottery Trust.
