Former Tynwald clerk spared jail

A former Tynwald clerk has been given a suspended prison sentence after admitting a charge of gross indecency with a person under the age of 16.
Thomas St John Neville Bates has been given an eight-month sentence, suspended for 12 months.
The 75-year-old has also been put on the sex offenders' register for ten years.
He was also ordered to pay £500 costs.
Douglas court heard that Bates had exposed himself to his victim in July last year.
