Spring warning for dog owners

Dog owners are being warned to keep their pets under control ahead of the spring season.

The police normally receives reports and investigates incidents of dogs worrying sheep around this time of the year.

Officers say they don't have to attack the farm animals to kill them - sometimes just chasing them can prove fatal.

Farmers are entitled to shoot any dog that they believe to be worrying their livestock under the Dogs Act of 1990.
