The Education, Sport and Culture Minister says it's not possible to offer discounts to those hiring school facilities to encourage active lifestyles due to the costs involved.
Graham Cregeen was asked at this month's sitting of Tynwald if the DESC could allow those that want to let school facilities for sports and health related activities to have a discount.
The Department already reduces its fees by 50% for activities involving kids and 25% for sessions involving a mix of children and adults, but sports-related activities for adults are charged at full price.
The Minister said the fee has to cover the cost of caretakers, who have to be on site throughout the duration of the letting.
However, Mr Cregeen confirmed the Department does review fixed costs on a regular basis, while sports clubs with long-term leases are also given preferential rates.
