Almost 90% of Manx residents who responded to a consultation on road tax are against the introduction of a congestion charge on the Island.
The Department of Infrastructure received over 600 responses to its recent consultation as it prepares to update the current system.
The responses revealed 89% of people don't want to see a charge brought in for driving into major centres of population, while 84% are against taxing progressively more as cars get older.
Almost 60% don't think the car tax system should be used to influence purchasing of vehicles.
There are currently over 80 different payment categories, which the DoI says has become increasingly complicated and includes discrepancies.
