Cost of providing free school meals increases by £300,000

The cost of providing free school meals on the Island has increased by over £300,000 in the last five years.
The Department of Education, Sport and Culture revealed it spent £767,083.71 providing dinners to those who qualify for free meals during the 2016-17 financial year, up from £465,000 in 2013.
Meanwhile, the amount spent on pre-school credit payments has risen by over £1m.
The payments were brought in during 2012, costing £333,799.87 in the first year.
The Government has increased its funding for the credit payments since then, spending almost £1.5m.
