A law firm with an office in Douglas is taking legal action against the BBC and The Guardian over their coverage of the Paradise Papers.
Appleby, which has a branch on Athol Street, claims the two media outlets committed a breach of confidence by publishing confidential information which had been stolen.
The documents contained details about those that use the Isle of Man to register business jets for a VAT refund, as well as including details about other jurisdictions.
Appleby also wants to stop the information being used in the future, saying it has an overwhelming responsibility to its clients.
The BBC insists authorities around the world are taking action as a result of its investigation, while The Guardian claims the action is an attempt to undermine responsible public interest journalism.
The Paradise Papers were published earlier this year after being sent to a German newspaper, but Appleby maintains the information was stolen in a data leak.
